NOW IS THE TIME TO BRUSH UP ON YOUR VOCABULARY OF NATURAL ORIGINS !
If the world of gardening, vegetable plots, wood or snow clearance seems somewhat abstract to you, don’t worry !
Pubert, with its natural origins, is here to help you with this concise but specialised dictionary covering the most commonly used words on our website.
We hope you enjoy learning them !
1 plus 1 tillers: General term for a tiller with 1 front speeds + 1 reverse, as opposed to the tillers or cultivators 2 + 1 with 2 Front speeds + 1 reverse speed.
Auger: Snow-thrower’s rotary working tool.
Bearing: Mechanical part fitted on the motor shaft, placed before the blade, ensuring additional protection of the motor shaft against the risk of violent impacts on the blade.
Chain kit: Forest brush cutter’s accessory that replaces the cutting blade. Composed of a steel plate and two chains, it is advisable for an activity in dense vegetation ( with stones, tree stumps or other obstacles).
Convertible tiller: (Convertible cultivator) Tiller that accept additional accessories like Ploughing kit or snow blade, to work in other activity than tilling.
Convertible cultivator: (Convertible tiller) Cultivator that accept additional accessories like Ploughing kit or snow blade, to work in other activity than tilling.
Cutting blades: (Scarifier) Knife edge positioned on the rotor of the scarifier, it may be fixed, mobile and retractable, when working the soil surface.
“Dead man” lever: (“Stop engine” lever). Safety device fitted to the handlebars which provide the engine shutdown in case of driver failure.
Dethatcher kit: Tiller’s accessory to remove moss from your lawn
Dethatching: Action for removing the moss and aerate your grass.
Differential effect: Cleat hubs system placed on the driving wheels shaft, allowing when driving through curves, to rotate both wheels at different speeds on a limited angle. It facilitate the machine rotation in curves or when manoeuvring.
Disk: Additional equipment for tilling tool. Placed at both ends of all tiller tines, it helps protect the plants located along the work area.
Free hand driving system: The auger clutch lever can be locked during work to let you control and direct the throw distance.
Grinding blade: (mulching blade) Reinforced steel blade, up to 30% thicker than a traditional blade. Its profile allows the crushed small pieces
Impeller: Rotary device for a snow blower for vacuuming the snow into the chute in order to proceed to its ejection.
Locking differential: system allowing to lock the differential system for having a better movement’s capacity on the selected wheel.
Mechanically welded frame: A welded structure is an assembly of metallic parts obtained by welding, and having a mechanical function.
Mulching : mowing method which consist to grind the plants immediately and don’t collect it.
Mulching blade: (Grinding blade) Reinforced steel blade, up to 30% thicker than a traditional blade. Its profile allows the crushed small pieces
Oscillating blade: Wide cutting device, with 2 teeth blades placed on top of each other, oscillating alternately to ensure clean cutting of plants.
Oscillating cutting deck: Cutting assembly which fits the terrain, allowing a perfect parallelism of the cutting width relative to the ground surface on which the machine operates.
Potatoes kit: Tiller’s accessory to extract from soil the mature potatoes, and thus facilitate their harvest.
Ploughing kit: Tiller’s accessory to plow
Plowing: Soil working’s technic which consists to do a furrow in the ground, before sowing seeds.
Pneumatic clutch : On pubert® tillers, the pneumatic clutch allows securing the drive belt to the engine pulley for communicating the rotary motion of the drive shaft to the transmission, and thus the working tool, and to separate when you want to stop the transmission of the movement. This allows a gradual pneumatic clutch drive, gently, for a more comfortable use of the tiller or cultivator. It increases the life of the belt..
Rear tine tiller: (Rototiller) Tiller which tiller tines are located at the rear of the motor axis of the machine
Retractable Cutter Blades: (cutting blade) Knife edge positioned on the rotor of the scarifier, it may be fixed, mobile and retractable, when working the soil surface.
Reverse mechanical shuttle: The inverter reduces and reverse the motor shaft rotation to the tiller tines, or to the wheels. All 1+1 cultivators and 1+1 tillers Pubert® have a mechanical shuttle Case.
Reversible plough: Tiller or cultivator’s Accessory for performing plowing. The reversible plow can be easily positioned in the desired direction during the plowing operation. Whatever the right or left position of the tiller or cultivator compared to the previously worked area.for performing plowing. The reversible plow can be easily positioned in the selected direction during the plowing operation. Whatever the right or left position of the tiller or cultivator compared to the previously worked area.
Ridger kit: Tiller’s accessory to create a clod about 10-15 cm at the base of the plants to protect them from frost, or some vegetables (potatoes, leeks, asparagus …) to promote their bleaching and thus increase yield.
Rototiller: (rear-tine tiller) Tiller which tiller tines are located at the rear of the motor axis of the machine
Rotor: Steel rotating cylinder for scarifier, equipped with cutting blades.
Run flat rear wheels: Wheel designed by adding a polyurethane additive inside the tire, removing any risk of puncture.
Spur: Accessory for a cultivator or a tiller. It helps the tiller tines to enter more or less in the ground, depending the user’s pressure force on the handlebars. According to the model of tillers or cultivators, the spur can be “adjustable” to choose the depth of worked soil. The more spur is adjusted downwards, the more cultivator till the soil deeply. On other models of cultivators and tillers, spur can be fixed in two positions, in order to adapt to the soft soil or hard soil.
“Stop engine” lever: (“Dead man” lever) Safety device fitted to the handlebars which provide the engine shutdown in case of driver failure.
Tines: Rotary tool, equipping cultivators and tillers for digging the earth. Generally a tiller or a cultivator is equipped with 4 or 6 tiller tines (4 knives assembled on a disk). So the total equipment is 16 or 24 knives).
To « break » the soil: To strongly loosen the hard ground, where soil has never been digged (or since a long time)
To plough: To turn over (a growing crop, manure, etc.) into the earth with an agricultural implement with sharp blades, attached to a tiller
Transmission : A mechanical assembly comprising two steel housing (or cast iron or aluminum or polymer) incorporating gears, chains, bearings…. The transmission communicate the rotary motion of the drive shaft to the working tool (Tiller tine, brusc cutter blade…)
All transmissions for tillers Pubert® are removable.
Variable speed tiller: Tiller designed to have the ability to control the speed of transmission output (wheels or tiller tines). This enables to adapt the working speed according to the accessories used, or according type of soil. On tiller VARIO the working speed can be adjusted step by step from 28 to 165 rpm.
X trac tyres: This tire’s profile enables a perfect grip and an optimal control of your machine, irrespective the ground configuration
